In January, we’ll focus on anchoring ourselves within the landscape. Our asana (physical) practice will invite us to ground through different parts of the body, allowing us to experiment with stability, strength, and centre of gravity.
We’ll also practice anchoring the attention and the mind so that we might bring home a sense of steadiness. How can you re-adjust your spine to find strength and ease? In the challenging poses, does your breath lose its rhythm or does your mind swim? Practicing yoga on the sand gives us a unique opportunity to physicially ground and sink into familiar poses in new ways. Meanwhile, the beach scene will be a beacon to draw our attention home.

February - Roll
In February, we’ll focus on rolling with the flow. Our asana (physical) practice will invite us to explore fluid movement in a variety of shapes, allowing us to find spaciousness, relieve tension, and recalibrate our range of motion.
We’ll also practice observing the rolling waves of the mind while remaining resolute and present on the beach. What happens if you roll through your neck while in a lunge? How does pressure change in your upper back, your spine, your hips? How does your breath respond? With the sound of the waves as our backdrop, we’ll have many chances to refocus and remember. Let’s experiment and see what happens.

In March, we’ll experiment with surrendering to both the beauty around us, and the tumult of the present moment.
Our asana (physical) practice will invite us to notice the struggle or tension that is present in each pose, and meet it with wisdom and calibrated softness.
We’ll also practice surrendering control of the mind as we remain wise to the transitory nature of our thoughts. Can you surrender into chair pose even when your quads start to burn? Can you allow your breath to roll smoothly as your chest opens in a supine stretch? Or perhaps you’re someone who (like me!) often finds the mental aspect of yoga more challenging than the physical aspect. Let’s experiment and see what happens.
