The world is a tumltuous place.
Even so, we must never lose sight of the awe-inspring Earth.

Have you looked around recently?

If you’ve been paying attention, you’ll have noticed that things seem pretty dire.

But look around.

This incredible, colourful, and lively planet floats bravely under our feet within a huge and unknowable universe.
We get to live here!

This world is not a sinking ship, it is our home!

This is our home.
(Welcome Home!)

Pull up a chair, Free People.

Let’s get comfy,
let’s help out,
let’s gather with loved ones,
put some art on the walls,
spark conversations,
change, even.

Let’s truly experience
a full life here on Earth.

Ready to go outside?

ABOUT THE ALMANAC

And that isn’t really our fault. It makes sense that we feel stressed, overwhelmed, exhausted, bored, distracted, uninspired, depressed, drained, or stifled. After all, our world is facing some huge challenges, and amidst it all, we also find ourselves blanketed by the hypnotising, curated mundanity of digital life.

But let’s not forget to be outside and breathe. This is the pace that we evolved to live at.

With a little time outside, we become more connected to the peace, wonder, wisdom, and grounded-ness that is abundant in nature. In turn, we also become more able to extend these values and hopes out to the world around us.

At least that’s what I think. You can try it and decide for yourself.

The Secret Almanac is an outdoor activity book, published twice yearly, that seeks to illuminate the natural world, and invite us deeper.

To bring people and planet together, we run outdoor events on Whadjuk Boodja, including mini-retreats, yoga classes, and free community events.

‘But why all the fuss?’ You Ask?

Well, because nature is dope!

And what’s more, with the right approach, small moments in nature are profound. Simple, but warming and steadying.

The trouble is… it can be hard to feel mindful and connected in the modern age.

  • Traditionally, Almanacs are printed documents that publicise important practical and statistical data about the natural cycles.

In the modern age, however, data is abundant, and connection is hard to find.

The Secret Almanac is an almanac for the modern age. It providing guidance by casting light on the wisdom and wonder of the natural world, hidden in plain sight.

So if you want data, you know where to find it. But if you want connection, look here.

  • big thinkers, artists, and scientists alike gather to share their ideas, their stories and their work, and invite you outside to tune in for yourself.

  • select contributors share stories, science, art and more. These contributions inspire a series of 12 prompts and activities designed to get you outdoors. Each book also contains blank pages for you to respond, take notes, draw, or imagine.

You’ll get acces to online Secret Extras, and the chance to contribute to community projects, from galleries to collective activism.

  • stressed or overwhelmed by the challenges facing our Earth, you’re not alone.

Yes, it’s a wild world, but if you’re willing to take a closer look, there’s a lot of good out there too.

It can be challenging to step away from the duty and distraction of modern life, but if you’re willing to give it a try, you won’t be disappointed.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Hey, I’m Hannah, the creator of The Secret Almanac.
I grew up barefoot and free in sunny, wild places. The Secret Almanac arose from a challenging period in my life, starting as my reminder to myself to go outside and reconnect.
I’m an engineer and a yoga/meditation teacher, so my approach is practical and backed by science, but also grounded in the felt experience, and guided by ancient wisdom.
